Art Bertolero became a director of the Company in October 2010. He has over 20 years of CEO and Board of Director experience in the medical device industry. The majority of his experience is in the area of minimally invasive surgery and endoscopy. He also has experience in the pharmaceutical industry and in the diagnostic products industry. His experience includes several successful startup companies and two public company turn around situations.
Mr. Bertolero is currently CEO of EndOclear, a company focused on reducing length of stay in the ICU,and improving patient outcomes by clearing biofilm from ET Tubes. He is also Chairman of PotentiaMED, a software company focused on improving healthcare outcomes and economics by combining clinical and financial data into a single data base. He recently advised breast cancer company Rubicor, on financing, marketing and sales strategy. Mr. Bertolero is a co‐founder of ESTECH and inventor of many products for minimally invasive heart valve surgery and treatments for Atrial Fibrillation (AF). He was successful in negotiating the distribution and later acquisition of the Boston Scientific Cobra products used to treat AF. Recent peer reviewed articles show the company has the highest cure rates for AF of any commercially available product. He is currently a board observer at ESTECH.
Mr. Bertolero was formerly President of Circadian, an office based diagnostics company, from 1992-1993, where he engineered a successful turn around of the company and completed a partnership
agreement with pharmaceutical company Glaxo. At Trimedyne, Mr. Bertolero repositioned the company to focus in the areas of less invasive procedures in urology and orthopedics. He helped to pioneer two new procedures: one for treating prostate disease and the other for treating herniated disks and injured knees with endoscopic techniques. He raised $13 million on a public secondary offering and was successful in increasing the share price from $1.75 to more than $15 in 1992.
At Surgical Laser Technologies (SLT), he helped to pioneer laparoscopic removal of the gallbladder. He built the sales and marketing teams, growing sales to $40 million. The company completed a successful IPO in 1989. Mr. Bertolero has a B.S. in Business Marketing from San Jose State University.
